This care guide is not meant to replace independent research, but to be used alongside it. While some species are considered beginner-friendly, this does not mean reptile care is easy, only that they are generally easier to care for in comparison to other reptiles.

Gargoyle Gecko Care Guide

Rhacodactylus auriculatus

Overview

  • Lifespan: 15–20 years

  • Size: 6–9 inches

  • Difficulty: Beginner–Intermediate

Enclosure

  • Minimum size: 18x18x24 (vertical)

  • Substrate: 70% top soil , 30% play sand

  • Provide branches, foliage, and climbing structures

  • Minimum 2 hides

Temperature

  • Day: 22–26°C

  • Night: 18–22°C

  • Avoid temps above 28°C

Lighting

  • No UVB required (optional low-level UVB beneficial)

  • Maintain a 12-hour day/night cycle

Humidity

  • 60–80%

  • Mist once daily (twice during shedding)

Feeding

  • Primary diet: Crested gecko diet (powder mix)

  • Insects: optional 1–2x per week

  • Feed 3–4x per week

Temperament

  • Can be jumpy, but tolerates handling over time

Maintenance

  • Spot clean: daily

  • Deep clean: monthly

Common Issues

  • Stuck shed

  • Dehydration

  • Tail loss (can regrow)

Crested Gecko Care Guide

Correlophus ciliatus

Overview

  • Lifespan: 15–20 years

  • Size: 6–8 inches

  • Difficulty: Beginner

Enclosure

  • Minimum size: 18x18x24 (vertical)

  • Provide lots of climbing branches and plants

  • Substrate: 70% top soil , 30% play sand

Temperature

  • Ideal range: 21–25°C

  • Avoid temps above 27°C

Lighting

  • No UVB required (optional low UVB beneficial)

  • 12-hour day/night cycle

Humidity

  • 60–80%

  • Mist nightly

Feeding

  • Main diet: Crested gecko diet

  • Insects: optional

  • Feed every 2–3 days

Temperament

  • Beginner-friendly

  • May jump when handled

Maintenance

  • Spot clean regularly

  • Full clean every 3–4 weeks

Common Issues

  • Dehydration

  • Dropped tail (does not regrow)

Leopard Gecko Care Guide

Eublepharis macularius

Overview

  • Lifespan: 15–20 years

  • Size: 7–10 inches

  • Difficulty: Beginner

Enclosure

  • Minimum: 20 gallon long tank

  • Substrate: 70% top soil , 30% play sand

  • Provide 3 hides: warm, cool, humid

Temperature

  • Warm side: 31–33°C

  • Cool side: 24–26°C

  • Use overhead heating with thermostat

Lighting

  • low UVB highly RECOMMENDED

Humidity

  • 30–40%

  • Provide a humid hide for shedding

Feeding

  • Diet: live insects only (crickets, mealworms, roaches)

  • Juveniles: daily feeding

  • Adults: 2–3x per week

  • Use calcium + vitamin supplements

Temperament

  • Very docile

  • Excellent for handling

Maintenance

  • Spot clean: daily

  • Deep clean: monthly

Common Issues

  • Stuck shed (especially toes)

  • Impaction

  • Weight loss
